Experiences

Brandenburg Gate
The Brandenburg Gate once marked the impenetrable boundary between East and West Berlin. Built in 1791, Brandenburg Gate has often been a centre stage for Berlin's militant political rallies, including the memorable celebrations in November 1989, when the Berlin Wall was torn down.

Reichstag
Since 1999 the Reichstag is used as the parliament of the German federal government. The building has historical significance, as the announcement of Germany being a Republic was made from one of these windows. In 1994 Christo and Jean Claude wrapped the Reichstag and made it to one of Europe's most spectacular art events.

Checkpoint Charlie
After the construction of the wall, Checkpoint Charlie used to be the former border and crossing point of East and West Germany. Soviet and American soldiers used to stand at that point across from each other. Today there is a reconstructed frontier house and a very interesting museum, which reflects the history and atmosphere of that period.

Shopping: "Friedrichstrasse"
It is said to be a fusion of the "Golden Twenties" and the New Berlin. There are numerous boutiques of top designers, galleries and elegant restaurants. Also historically, Friedrichstrasse used to be one of the border crossing points of former East and West Germany.

The Opera House "Staatsoper Unter den Linden"
Just a short walk from the hotel you will find the "Staatsoper", which was built in 1741. It is one of the world's greatest opera houses. The exterior is built in Prussian classical style, while the interior reflects the rococo style.

"Hakesche Höfe"
It is a complex of buildings, which consists of eight courtyards. In the past it was constructed to accommodate offices, apartments and multi-story factories. Today you will find a theatre, numerous restaurants, bars and galleries.

East Side Gallery
As most famous graffiti artists have put their signs on the eastside of the Berlin wall, it is currently the world's largest open-air gallery. 118 artists from 21 countries have painted their artworks on a 1,316 meter long section.

Potsdamer Platz
After the reunification of East and West Germany it took a few years until a completely new quarter arose on Potsdamer Platz. The quarter offers office buildings, shops, hotels, apartments and restaurants as well as a theatre, IMAX cinema, the Sony Center and a casino. Most of the land is owned by Daimler Chrysler.

"Haus der Kulturen" - House of World Cultures
The museum represents a forum for dialogue between the diverse cultures in the world. The focus is mainly on contemporary arts from Africa, Asia and Latin America.

"Gedächtniskirche" - Memorial Church
It is located on Kurfürstendamm and is a famous monument for peace and reconciliation. It also is the internationally famous symbol of Berlin's desire to rebuild itself in the aftermath of the war.

Olympia Stadium
This stadium hosted the final football match of FIFA World Cup Germany 2006. It holds 76,000 people and is also the place, where major events and concerts of international top stars take place.

KaDeWe
The largest and most magnificent department store in continental Europe offers numerous exclusive boutiques and stores. After the Second World War the Department Store of the West became the symbol of the rising market economy.
